From add-on to first request in four steps.

  1. 1 Turn on API Access

    Email support to add API Access to your subscription. It's a paid add-on on the Core plan.

  2. 2 Create a key

    An organization admin names the key and picks Read only or Read & Write. The key shows once, so copy it then.

  3. 3 Connect your tool

    Your tool sends the key with each request, and each request names one shop. Webhooks post to your URL when a booking is created, a job is completed or stock runs low.

  4. 4 Watch the usage

    The API Access page shows requests, errors and response time for each key. Rotate a key if it may have leaked, or revoke it for good.

Keys are capped. Your organization can have a set number of active keys. The API Access page shows the limit.

Where it stops. Better to know now.

  • Few built-in connections. autoGMS connects to Xero, QuickBooks and Sage, and to Stripe for payment links. Parts catalogs and other tools connect through the API.
  • Some data is read only. Invoices, purchase orders, bays, services and technicians can be read but not changed through the API.
  • Rate limits apply. A key gets 60 requests a minute on the Standard tier and up to 1,000 on Enterprise. Past the limit, requests are refused until the wait ends.

Questions shops ask

Does it connect to my accounting software?

Yes, with the Financial Reports add-on, which includes accounting sync. Invoices, payments, customers and bills sync to Xero, QuickBooks or Sage. Other tools can read invoices through the API.

Can one key work across several shops?

Yes. A key can reach several shops in your organization. Each request names the shop it's for.

What if a key leaks?

Rotate it. autoGMS issues a new key and the old one stops working. You can also revoke a key for good. Neither can be undone.

Is API activity logged?

Yes. All API activity is logged, and the API Access page shows each key's requests, errors and last use.
